The design of the modern car consists of several thousand parts and every
year becomes more complicated, due to the increased safety requirements,
comfort and quality of cars presented by consumers. When developing cars,
modern automakers focus their attention on the engineering of the interior /
exterior of the car and its production, and individual assembly plants, at best
concentrate on stamping, welding, painting and assembling cars. Therefore, the
production of cars cannot be imagined without suppliers of automotive
components. Moreover, specialized companies for the production of auto
components will create and develop individual auto components better, faster
and cheaper than the car manufacturer. have a more extensive experience in
certain areas (electrician, brake systems, security systems, expendable
components (filters), etc.).
About 70% of the budget for purchases of automakers are the cost of
purchased auto parts; and if we consider the costs of raw materials, materials
and components directly used for the production of cars, then about 90% will be
auto components. Thus, the development of the component base should be one of
the strategic directions for the automaker. The automotive components
manufacturing industry is now the most problematic segment of the Russian
automotive industry. Russian suppliers are mostly focused on Russian car plants

component industry opened their business in Russia.
In the segment of manufacturers of automotive components in Russia there
are three main types of manufacturers:
- Russian manufacturers of automotive components: they are mainly
focused on the production of components for existing and obsolete Russian
models; have mainly a morally and physically worn out technological base; lack
of new developments and technologies, professional management; do not have
sufficient investment resources and engineering skills to develop new types of
products and expand the client base; have a low level of quality that does not
allow to supply products to international producers.
- Joint ventures of Russian and foreign manufacturers of automotive
components (such as ZF, Faurecia, Delphi, etc.): have relatively modern
production technologies and equipment obtained from international partners;
focus on the production of technologically simple components with low added
value (bumpers, harnesses, lighting equipment, etc.) developed by international
partners, or on the licensed assembly of complex components with a low level of
localization of subcomponents (gearbox, engines, etc.); practically have no
rights to IP, their own engineering and R & D; They have a narrow
specialization, usually in a small assortment of products from one to two
categories of components.
- Foreign manufacturers of auto components (for example, Lear, Bosch,
Federal Mogul, etc.) are relatively new producers on the Russian market: they
have a low level of localization, both subcomponents and raw materials; have a
narrow specialization and undeveloped customer base, which leads to a small
scale of production; are oriented to supply in the domestic market; focus on
technologically simple components with low added value (for example: seats,
candles, exhaust systems, etc.).
